While we’ve seen conflicting reports over the iPhone Air’s production capacity, a new rumor from tipster Digital Chat Station suggests it will get a successor next year. According to the post, Apple will follow a “normal iteration phase”, meaning the yearly update with the same thin and light design. The device is expected to feature a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR panel with Face ID but the back will feature a notable camera upgrade.
iPhone Air 2 speculative render
Apple is now expected to bring a 48MP ultrawide lens, which would join the 48MP primary shooter. One of the biggest gripes with the current Air model is the single camera on the back, which Apple is confidently advertising as “multiple cameras in one”. And while it offers 2x telephoto mode, which crops in, there’s no way to simulate an ultrawide lens.
Apple iPhone 17 Air
As per the new leak, Apple will position the second camera horizontally instead of a vertical arrangement like on the iPhone 17. It remains to be seen whether the second-gen Air will capture spatial videos, since that was one of the reasons Apple moved to a vertical camera arrangement on its base iPhone.
